Our Mission
At Black Barn Farm, our mission is to provide the highest quality livestock while ensuring the health and safety of our animals.
How it began
We are a family of 7 who set out to make a dream reality. We purchased a home on 10 acres to start a small homestead. The journey began around the time of covid. It came with many obstacles and bumps in the road, but we were motivated, more than ever, to teach our children sustainability when we saw what was happening within the grocery stores. We started out with a garden. The only seeds we could find available were green beans, jalapeños, cantaloupe and strawberries. The family put in a group effort tending to the garden and harvest finally arrived. The excitement on their faces when they moved down the rows to find more veggies and fruit to be picked made my heart full. They understood the intended lesson; They were getting it. I was hooked! We built the coop, got the chickens and slowly began adding other livestock. We researched what animals would be best to fit our family and land needs and made careful, thoughtful choices in selecting them. We knew they would be an investment so we wanted quality lines and registered or registerable stock. Vaccinations and Biosecurity testing were put in place to protect our investments as well. This is something that is super important to us to maintain a healthy herd, so we work closely with our vets, including KState to provide their year-round care. We have had wonderful mentors along the way and have networked with so many knowledgeable people within this community. Our hope is to continue to better the breeds we've chosen to raise and maintain quality lines and share them with our customers to enjoy for years to come.
